This wicks sweat away from the body and keeps you dry. You should also wear a light jacket or vest that is windproof and water-repellent. Long cycling shorts are suitable for your legs. These give you sufficient freedom of movement and protect your legs from the cold. Alternatively, you can combine short cycling shorts with leg warmers . This gives you the option of taking off the leg warmers and riding in shorts if it does get warmer. A cycling cap under your helmet can also help protect your head from the wind and cold.
