A day full of light that carries you. No darkness stopping you. Full of energy without getting sluggish. Endless days that reinforce the feeling of being free again. Driven by the inner passion.
Amidst his preparations for circumnavigating the world this year, Jonas has also had to forgo traveling during the lockdown. Without a permanent address and living on his bike, he stayed with his parents in Switzerland for a few weeks. Even though he had been able to spend more time with his family again for a long time and was able to explore Switzerland anew by bike and constantly, the desire to be on the road again grew.
white nights
So, with this desire and in preparation for the circumnavigation of the world, Jonas travels into the great outdoors of Sweden. Thanks to the "white nights" he can use the long days and pursue his passion again. The feeling of being free and on the move is what makes his life so special. More than ever, he enjoys completing a long-distance triathlon in the lake, on gravel roads and forest paths with a full pack as preparation.
The day starts for Jonas after a night of wild camping near Sveg. After a small breakfast at 6 a.m., we go directly to the nearby lake. The temperatures in Sweden are very pleasant this summer, but without a wetsuit it gets chilly for Jonas after some time in the water. In addition, the waves, which are getting bigger and bigger due to the headwind, are giving him problems.
After swimming and a second breakfast, Jonas goes 180 km through the forest. In the midst of Sweden's nature, a reindeer stands in his way after just a few kilometers. It's moments like this that make these trips so special. The unique nature, the silence around you.
A planned refreshment point is on a small island where he intends to stock up on food. After almost 180 kilometers on the bike and an empty stomach, disillusionment sets in pretty quickly. Jonas has to realize that the bridge to the island, which is drawn on the map, is a road on the otherwise frozen lake and that in summer only a boat crossing is possible. Luckily he finds a pizzeria nearby, which is actually closed, but still heats up the pizza oven for him..
It is now 10 p.m. when the marathon starts. He does not follow a pre-determined route, but spontaneously decides which way to go. Due to the constantly changing environment, the different vegetation and the large number of animals he encounters, he can distract himself mentally. Jonas finishes this adventurous triathlon in Sweden's nature at around 3 a.m. Since it's one of the longest days of the year, the sun is still shining and he can find a place to sleep by the lake during the bright night.
What lies ahead
It won't be long before his next big project starts. An unaccompanied trip around the world. Swimming, cycling and running. Always with him, his luggage. Equipped with only the essentials. As part of his preparation, he also circumnavigated Germany in the last few weeks and swam across Lake Constance in five days and covered almost 2800 km on the bike and about 670 km running. Now some tests are still pending to see if his material will withstand the extreme conditions of his trip around the world. Not only will he experience severe cold on the bike during the Siberian winter, but he will also endure intense heat while running through California's Death Valley.
Find out more about Jonas' everyday life as an adventurer and his latest project at the first Ryzon Showroom Talk on September 8th. Since both dates are already sold out that day, we are offering an additional date on September 9th. Get one of 20 tickets here.
